ABOUT

HELLO & WELCOME

I started this blog because there was a serious shortage of finance & investment blogs 😁😁
Sarcasm may well turn out to be a feature of this blog!

A little about me
My name is Vivek & I am a Private Investor.
I am passionate about investing and related subjects. Indeed, I think one of the reasons I find investing so interesting is the breadth of subjects you have to cover.

For some credibility:
I have worked in Finance & Financial Services for as long as I can remember.
I trained as a Chartered Accountant with a major Accountancy Firm & then worked at a (formerly) bulge bracket Investment Bank.

My career was interrupted by a very expensive but fun MBA, following which I assisted a VC Fund with a new product launch, consulted with a Fin Tech start up and a few Banks.

On a more interesting note, I have lived in 4 countries, speak 3 languages, 2 well, and have a beautiful amazing wife who is without doubt the most fantastic, kind, patient, tolerant & stoic person in the world.

Why I started this blog / Investing Full Time
To cut a long story short:

I always wanted to work as an investment manager (Other people's money!), but nobody let me, so after a long time wishing, I decided to take the plunge as a full time Private Investor.
Of course, if I am good at this game, far better to keep 100% of that Alpha (& Beta) in stead of a measly half %.

I hope this blog helps me become a better investor by helping me better express & develop my investment ideas and thoughts.

For anyone that is gracious enough to visit, I hope you find it helpful, informative & entertaining.

To keep the story long, I enjoy investing!
During the MBA we wrote a letter to ourselves, saying where we hoped to be in 5 years
(A very good approach to bigger picture goal setting and I recommend it).

Mine said something along the lines of hopefully you have repaired your balance sheet post MBA and are working towards starting your own business.

As chance would have it, my previous role ended in Jan 2020 & I planned to take some time off and travel to India too.
A couple of months later things had changed somewhat - it wasn't the best time to look for new roles and international travel was also out.

So at the risk of being deluded and a little later than 5 years, 2020  saw the launch of my "Investment Business".
(Like Berkshire - very original I know & they have lost it!)
And for some more delusion, this blog is the venture's public face / first product.

In terms of measuring success, if I have to go back to the day job, I will have failed in my new venture.

Anyway, as much as I have enjoyed this last year, I feel everything has been somewhat haphazard.
By fostering some accountability / public statement of activity, I can add structure and better develop my ideas & thoughts around investments / investment processes / markets & macro news / noise.

I have some items on a checklist I like to do (You can take the Man out of the Accountancy, but you can't take the Accountant out of the Man).

Hopefully this blog will let me complete the checklist like my bosses used to do in a previous life and make me a better investor.
I hope you find the content helpful, informative & entertaining.

Tempted as I am to detail what content can be expected and when / how often, I will leave it there.
